Day 55
Day 55: 1610 grams or 3 lbs 9 oz. he maintained that big weight gain he had yesterday which is great. The ultrasound on his head came back and the brain bleed on both sides is totally gone! He is having a tougher time breathing today. His stridor is more pronounced, so he squeaks when he breathes. And he is breathing faster and more labored. They did a chest X-ray to rule out aspiration. His lungs looked perfectly clear. They did a blood gas and it was great. And they checked his blood sugar, it was 91 which is good. So they don't think it is an infection. Because he has been spitting up so much they think it might be his reflux has caused irratation and inflammation in his airway making it harder to breathe. They have switched him to continuos eating. So instead of receiving 1 ounce every 3 hours, he receives 8.5 ounces slowly over 24 hours. They have also stopped bottle feeding and nursing until his breathing is not so labored. It has helped with his reflux but we have not seen huge improvements in his breathing yet. They have given him an albuterol treatment and a racemic epinephrine treatment. They have helped a little bit. We are disappointed in this little setback but hoping for the best. Lots of love and prayers. FOJSP!
